In the roughly 18 months we have been publishing this online column, we have never gotten as much response as we did to last Friday’s edition about Nexstar’s loss of its CBS affiliations in six markets that will surprisingly happen later this very week.
CBS is moving its TV network affiliation to different station in each of the six cities (markets.) The radio situation was different, it closed down the CBS News Radio Network service earlier this year. It had sold off all of its owned radio stations (such as KCBS) to another company (its called Audacy now) years ago.
Is CBS picking up six other stations, or are they abandoning television the way they did radio three months after the administration opened an investigation:
"Just six days into President Donald Trump’s new administration, the San Francisco Bay-area radio station KCBS-AM reported that immigration agents were in the area — driving 'unmarked vehicles including a black Dodge Durango, a gray Nissan Maxima and white Nissan truck.'
"The brief story — also reported by other outlets — quickly drew the ire of conservative influencers who attacked KCBS’ report as endangering agents’ lives, sparking a deluge of complaints from listeners and callers.
"That was just the start of KCBS’ troubles. The Trump administration’s top broadcast regulator, Brendan Carr, soon accused KCBS of failing to operate in the public interest and said he was opening an investigation."
